The Bambu Lab H2D is our flagship 3D printer — the biggest, hottest, and most capable machine on the floor. It's a large-format (350×320×325mm), fully enclosed CoreXY printer with two nozzles on one print head, hardened steel hotends reaching 350°C, a 120°C bed, active chamber heating up to 65°C, and a multi-stage air filtration system. It uses the same Bambu Studio workflow as our P1S and X1 Carbon. Use it for big parts, dual-material prints with dissolvable or breakaway supports, and engineering materials — PC, Nylon, and carbon/glass-fiber filaments — that our other machines can't handle.

Overview
Two nozzles, one print head
The H2D's print head carries a left nozzle and a right nozzle. Only one prints at a time; the other lifts out of the way so it doesn't drag across your part. Because each nozzle has its own filament, switching between them is quick and wastes far less filament than a single-nozzle color change.

What that's good for:
* Real support material — print your part in one nozzle and dissolvable (PVA) or breakaway support in the other. Clean overhangs and internal cavities with no support scarring.
* Two materials in one part — e.g. a rigid body with a different material in specific areas.
* Multi-color — with an AMS on each nozzle, you get many colors with much less purge waste than a single-nozzle printer.

Build volume note: Using both nozzles in one print shrinks the usable width to 300mm. Single-nozzle prints can use 325mm.

Heated chamber
The H2D can actively heat its chamber up to 65°C. Warm, stable chamber air is what keeps engineering materials like ABS, ASA, PC, and Nylon from warping and cracking between layers. Bambu Studio sets chamber temperature from your filament profile — you don't need to set it by hand.

Printer at a glance:
* Biggest build volume of our Bambu machines.
* Hardened steel nozzles — the only printer on the floor approved for carbon-fiber and glass-fiber filaments.
* HEPA + carbon filtration — the best fume handling of any printer in the space.

style="background:#f0a500; color:white; font-size:115%;" | 🏆 Use Bambu Studio for This Machine
style="padding:10px;" |
Bambu Studio is the recommended slicer for the H2D. It ships with tuned H2D profiles, handles left/right nozzle assignment, support material, and AMS colors, and exports files ready for the USB drive. Free.
* Select "Bambu Lab H2D" when adding the printer, with the correct nozzle size for each nozzle (0.4mm unless a volunteer has swapped one).
* Assign each filament to the left or right nozzle it's actually loaded on.
* Pick filament profiles that match what's loaded — these set nozzle, bed, and chamber temperatures.
* Always use the latest stable version — H2D support requires a recent release.

Also works: OrcaSlicer supports the H2D, but dual-nozzle and chamber features are most reliable in Bambu Studio.

Where to slice: Bambu Studio is installed on the makerspace lab PCs — you're welcome to use those, or install it free on your own laptop.

Tip: The weight estimate you need for your sticky note and filament payment is shown in Bambu Studio's slice preview, after you click "Slice plate." Use the total — it includes support material, prime tower, and purge waste. If you used two different materials, note each one separately.
Startup / First-Print Workflow
# Complete mandatory training before use, and sign in on the equipment log.
# Turn on the printer using the power switch on the back.
# Check the build plate: it should be clean, seated flat on the magnetic bed, and aligned with the pins at the back.
# Check what's loaded on the left and right nozzles (and in any AMS slots) — note the color/material for each.
# Slice your model in Bambu Studio with the H2D profile. Assign each filament to the nozzle and slot it's actually loaded in.
# Write your name, contact info, and estimated filament weight on a sticky note and attach it to the printer (see the 3D Printing Area checklist).
# Send the print to the printer using the USB flash drive method below (or over the network, if it's working).
# Let the printer run its automatic calibration — don't skip this. Nozzle-to-nozzle alignment matters for dual-material prints.
# For engineering materials, expect a chamber warm-up before printing starts. This is normal — let it finish.
# Watch the first layer (and the first nozzle switch, if dual-material) to confirm good adhesion.
# Stay reachable during the print; check in periodically on long jobs (or use the camera, if the network is up).
# Let the bed and chamber cool, then remove the flexible plate and flex it to pop your print off. Put the plate back, clean up scraps and purge waste. Sign out on the log sheet.

💾 Printing from a USB Flash Drive (Standard Method)
style="background:#fff3cd; border: 2px solid #f0a500; padding:10px;" | ⚠️ Always know how to do this. The network connection may not be set up or reliable on any given day — the USB drive works every time.
# After slicing in Bambu Studio, click the dropdown arrow next to "Print plate" (top right) and choose "Export plate sliced file."
# Save the file (it ends in .gcode.3mf) to a USB flash drive.
# Plug the drive into the printer's USB port.
# On the touchscreen, open the file list for the USB drive, select your file, and start the print.
# If the printer offers calibration options, leave them turned on.
Tip: Give your file a recognizable name (e.g. yourname_bracket.gcode.3mf) so it's easy to find on the screen.

📡 Printing over the Network (When Available)
If the printer shows up in Bambu Studio's Device tab, you can click "Print plate" to send the job directly and confirm filament-to-slot mapping before it starts. If the printer doesn't appear or the send fails, don't troubleshoot the network — just use the USB method above.

🎨 Loading Filament & Using the AMS
* Each nozzle is fed either by an AMS or by an external spool. Check the touchscreen to see which source feeds which nozzle.
* Match your assignments. When printing from a USB drive, the printer uses the nozzle/slot assignments exactly as you set them in Bambu Studio. If they don't match what's loaded, you'll get the wrong material in the wrong place.
* Don't swap other people's filament mid-print. Only change a slot or spool that isn't being used by a running print, and put it back when you're done.
* Not for the AMS: TPU/flexible filament, wet or brittle filament, and cardboard spools without an adapter ring. Load those from an external spool — ask a volunteer if unsure.
* Empty the purge bin if it's getting full.
Loading filament: Use the touchscreen's filament menu, choose the nozzle/slot, and follow the prompts to heat, feed, and confirm extrusion. The AMS reads Bambu RFID spools automatically; for other brands, set the material and color for that slot on the screen.

Material !! Status !! Notes
PLA || ✅ || Prints great — but the P1S machines are usually a better use of the queue for plain PLA. Don't use chamber heating with PLA (heat creep/clogs); Bambu Studio's PLA profiles handle this.
PETG || ✅ || Good durability; use glue stick on the PEI plate to prevent over-adhesion
TPU || ✅ (with care) || Flexible; print slow. Load from an external spool — not through the AMS
ABS / ASA || ✅ || Excellent results with chamber heating and full filtration
PVA / Breakaway / Support materials || ✅ || Dual nozzle makes these easy — dedicate one nozzle to support. Keep PVA dry.
PC (Polycarbonate) || ✅ || The H2D is our machine for PC. Must be dry. Ask a volunteer before your first PC print.
Nylon (PA) || ✅ (with care) || Must be very dry — dry before printing. Ask a volunteer before your first Nylon print.
Carbon-fiber / glass-fiber filled (PLA-CF, PETG-CF, PA-CF, etc.) || ✅ || Hardened steel nozzles handle abrasives — this is the only printer on the floor approved for these. Don't run abrasive filaments through other machines.
style="background:#ffe4e4;" | Ultra-high-temp materials (PEEK, PEI/Ultem, etc.) || style="background:#ffe4e4;" | ❌ Not supported || style="background:#ffe4e4;" | Require nozzle and chamber temperatures beyond the H2D's limits.
When in doubt about a material/machine combination, ask a volunteer before printing.
Material Handling & Storage
* Store spools dry, cool, and out of direct sunlight in a resealable bag with desiccant.
* Nylon, PC, PETG, TPU, PVA, and most fiber-filled filaments absorb moisture — wet filament causes stringing, popping, bubbles, and weak parts. Dry engineering filaments before every print.
* Fiber-filled filaments can be brittle — check for kinks or snaps before loading.
Safety
⚠️ Burns: The nozzles reach 350°C, the bed reaches 120°C, and the chamber walls, glass, and interior parts get hot during heated-chamber prints. Don't touch any of them with bare hands. Let the printer cool before opening it up after an engineering-material print.

⚠️ Moving parts: Keep hands out of the printer while it's running — pause or stop the print from the touchscreen first.

⚠️ Ventilation: The H2D's HEPA + carbon filtration handles fumes and particles better than any other machine in the space, but it doesn't replace room ventilation. Keep the room ventilated, especially for ABS, ASA, PC, and Nylon. Check the SDS for non-Bambu materials.

⚠️ Electrical: This printer draws a lot of power (up to 1320W at 110V), especially while heating the chamber. Use the printer's own power cord with an earthed wall socket — no extension cords or power strips, and don't share the outlet with other high-draw equipment. Always unplug before maintenance.
style="background:#fff3cd; border: 2px solid #f0a500;" | ⚠️ Build Plate Warning
style="background:#fff3cd; border: 2px solid #f0a500; padding:10px;" | Always make sure the flexible build plate is seated flat and aligned with the pins at the back of the bed before printing. A misaligned plate can cause a nozzle crash. Don't use metal scrapers on the PEI surface — flex the plate to release prints instead.
General rules:
* Complete mandatory training and sign in before use.
* Never leave the first layer unattended.
* Don't store items inside the printer — objects in the chamber can block the print head or bed.
* Don't change printer settings, firmware, nozzles, or filters yourself — ask a volunteer.
* Report jams, failures, and maintenance issues. Clean the bed, remove scraps, and empty the purge bin when done.
Troubleshooting
Issue !! Likely Cause !! Fix
Poor bed adhesion || Oily/dirty plate, wrong plate setting in slicer || Wash the plate with dish soap and water (don't touch the surface with bare fingers); confirm the plate type in Bambu Studio matches the installed plate
Print won't come off || PETG over-adhesion, plate still hot || Let the plate cool fully, then flex it. Use glue stick as a release layer next time
Warping / layer cracking (ABS, ASA, PC, Nylon) || Chamber not warm enough, drafts, wet filament || Keep doors closed, let the chamber warm-up finish, dry the filament, add a brim
Clogging with PLA || Chamber too warm (heat creep) || Use the stock PLA profile (no chamber heating); open the door/top for long PLA prints
Material in the wrong place / wrong colors || Nozzle or slot assignments in Bambu Studio didn't match what's loaded || Re-check what's on each nozzle/slot, fix assignments, and re-export to the USB drive
Two materials misaligned || Calibration skipped || Re-run calibration before printing
Stringing / popping / bubbles || Wet filament || Dry the filament before printing
AMS won't feed / filament stuck || Tangled spool, brittle filament snapped in the tube || Stop the print and ask a volunteer to clear the feed path — don't force it
File doesn't show up on the printer || Exported the project instead of the sliced file, or the drive isn't seated || Re-export using "Export plate sliced file" (.gcode.3mf), re-insert the drive
Error code on display || Various || Note the error code and search it in the Bambu Lab Wiki; report to a volunteer if it doesn't clear
