The CreatBot F430 is a fully enclosed, industrial-grade dual-extruder FDM 3D printer at Grand River Makerspace. Unlike the shop's consumer printers, it features an actively heated chamber and a 420°C hotend, making it capable of printing high-performance engineering and composite materials that other GRM machines cannot handle. It is built for large parts, high-temperature filaments, and reliable long-duration prints.

Overview

The F430 is GRM's machine for engineering-grade work. Its actively heated 70°C chamber (a feature the consumer printers lack) prevents warping and cracking on high-shrinkage materials, while the dual hotends allow either two-material printing or soluble support. The left 260°C hotend covers everyday and composite filaments; the right 420°C martensite-steel hotend handles high-performance materials like PEEK and ULTEM. Power-loss recovery and a filament run-out sensor make it reliable for long unattended prints.

Software

Prepare files using CreatBot Slicer or Simplify3D, both of which support F430 dual-extruder profiles.

  • Confirm the correct hotend (left vs. right) is assigned for your material before slicing.

Getting files to the printer — two methods:

Method How
USB drive Export the sliced file to a USB flash drive, insert it into the printer, and select the file from the touchscreen.
USB cable Connect the printer to a PC via USB cable and send the print directly from the slicer.

Startup

  1. Power on the printer using the switch at the rear.
  2. Load filament into the correct extruder for your material (left = standard, right = high-temp).
  3. For high-temp or warp-prone materials, allow the chamber to preheat to 70°C.
  4. Send your sliced file via USB drive or USB cable (see Software above).
  5. On the touchscreen, select the print job; the auto-level probe runs before printing.
  6. Monitor the first layer to confirm good bed adhesion.

Materials

Safety

  • Do not open the chamber mid-print — this releases fumes and disrupts chamber temperature.
  • Confirm the correct hotend is selected before printing; running the wrong material through the wrong hotend can damage the machine.
  • Staff approval and training are required before operating this printer.

Troubleshooting

Issue Fix
Print not sticking Clean the plate; re-run auto leveling; confirm bed temp matches material.
Warping/cracking Ensure the chamber has preheated to 70°C; keep the enclosure sealed.
Filament not loading Cleanly cut the filament end; confirm the run-out sensor registers it; verify the correct extruder is selected.
Clogs/under-extrusion Verify nozzle temp matches material; check for the correct hotend; clear with the unclogging tool.
Wrong material through wrong hotend Stop the print; do not run high-temp materials through the 260°C left hotend.
Print lost to power outage Use the power-loss recovery prompt on restart to resume.
