General Safety Rules

• Keep work area clean and organized
• Return tools and supplies to proper locations
• Report damaged equipment immediately
• Clean up after your project

Sewing Machine Safety

• Receive orientation before using machines for the first time
• Keep fingers away from moving needle
• Unplug machine before changing needle or threading
• Use appropriate needle for fabric type
• Don't force fabric through machine

Rotary Cutter Safety

• Always retract blade when not actively cutting
• Cut away from body
• Use a sharp blade - dull blades require more pressure and slip
• Always use a cutting mat
• Store with blade retracted

Iron & Heat Press Safety

• Never leave iron unattended when on
• Use appropriate temperature for fabric
• Keep cord away from hot surfaces
• Allow to cool before storing
• Use pressing cloth for delicate fabrics

Dyeing Safety

• Wear gloves when handling dyes
• Work in well-ventilated area
• Wear apron or old clothes
